No, you're missing the point. They cannot simplify something that's at the absolute zero on the simplicity scale to begin with. It doesn't become any simpler than to log in and see a birthday present. They cannot, by any means possible, make this part of the game any simpler than it currently is.
If anything, the people who have been lucky enough not to have deleted characters before there ever was any indication that there would be birthday presents, are the ones who have it 'simple'. (By your weird definition of the word simple.) Because I'm sure my 6th birthday presents aren't going to be worth 200 ecto when I get them 8 months from now.

A single "gift" of some sort to commemorate playing the game for six years is a good idea, because basing it just on a surviving character proves nothing.
Some idiot "like me" could buy extra Character slots "Which I did" and could have say 14 characters each getting birthday minis and any other goodies.
Having a six year old character does not prove you have played the game for six years that character could be lvl 1 and in presearing with 6 minis and an everlasting tonic as a "Reward" for game loyalty.
While an account based gift doesn't prove you played the game any more than a character based one does it at least reward those who for whatever reason deleted their original characters.

You give a present to peoples characters after 12 months.
But later change it to give it to peoples characters who are not 12 months old.
You just Made thinks easier to achieve.

You're*
It isn't an idea to simplify anything , either way it's a waiting game, it just adds gifts based on account age rather than just character age.

@Aba: What you're failing to see is that he just wants a separate gift for account age. He's not asking for a 6th year birthday present for each char that was created 6 years ago but was deleted before their birthday arrived. Because even though I personally don't, many people in this game play it hours on end each and every day, so keeping more than one character for 6 years is a simple waste of time and extremely boring. But it would be nice for them to maybe have a gift to remind them that they did indeed start the game 6 years ago.
It's not making it easier to get anything. He wants a new something that you couldn't even get before.
Personally, I'm indifferent about it. I wouldn't want it to be anything too significant, but maybe a small reminder that you're however-old wouldn't hurt

Waiting for things to happen while you do nothing at all doesn't involve levels of difficulty. Waiting for something for a week is as easy as waiting for something for 10 years. There is no reduction of complexity. There's also no achievement. Nothing about your post makes sense.

Maybe not a birthday gift, but I deleted my ranger from May 2005 when I got back into the game in Dec, 2006.
I personally would like an emote for an account age indicator/reward.
You can buy a 6th year minipet for your character, but an emote is real proof of how old/new school you are.

Or a title under your char that displays /age, but show account age only not the char being /age.
